Hot for hot chocolate

Cold days call for hot chocolate! So in honour of YYC Hot Chocolate Fest in support of Meals on Wheels,  I thought I’d make my own hot chocolate and list out the ones in the City that are a must try!

MK’s Cold Days Hot Chocolate

2 cups milk (I use 2% with a splash of cream or use whole milk, no skimping here ;))

1/8 cup cocoa powder

1/8 cup milk chocolate, chopped (or use good quality chips)

1/8 cup white chocolate, chopped (or again use the chips)

1/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate (I prefer more of the semi-sweet but use more milk if you want it sweeter)

1/8 cup molasses, try it – it adds a unique deep richness

Dash of vanilla

2 tbsp powdered sugar, optional if you like it sweeter..

Make it

Add the milk to a saucepan over medium heat then whisk in the cocoa powder. Add the chocolate and stir often until smooth and scalding. Do not make over high heat or you’ll burn the milk.

Top with whip cream, more cocoa powder, mini marshmallows, nuts or toasted coconut!

Thanks, Mel. I made a “dairy-free” version of this for Mace tonight and he LOVED it! Awesome MK Hot Choc recipe.

Looks delicious! I tried the ones from Bruhe, Analog, Yann Haute Patisserie, Waves, Vendome, Yellow Door, and Monogram! Not a bad record, I don’t think!
